We offer two main types of degrees: a Master’s Degree in Service Learning and a Certificate in Service Learning. Our programs designed for educators and professionals who want to develop expertise in service learning, or who want to expand their current service learning practice. Our courses are interactive and immersive, allowing you to learn at your own pace. You can take our courses solo or as part of a group, and we offer flexible course scheduling options that fit your lifestyle. We offer three program types: Full-Time, Part-Time, and blended. Full-Time programs require 10 hours per week and Part-Time programs require 8 hours per week; blended programs require 7 hours per week of work while also completing 1-2 electives during the semester. Detroit Service Learning Academy founded in 2007
Detroit Service Learning Academy founded in 2007 by a group of Detroit teachers and administrators who recognized the need for more service learning opportunities in the city. The academy offers year-round service learning opportunities for students in grades K-12.
Since its inception, the academy has worked with a variety of partner organizations to offer service learning experiences that help students learn about social justice, community engagement, and environmental awareness. Some of the notable partners that have worked with DSLA over the years include Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit, United Way of Southeast Michigan, and Equal Justice USA.
The academy currently has more than 100 enrolled students who are participating in over 30 different servicelearning projects throughout the city. Projects have ranged from cleaning up neighborhoods to building homes for low-income families. DSLA also partners with local schools to offer their students access to our programming and resources.
DSLA is committ to provid enriching servicelearning opportunities for Detroit students so that they can develop skills that will equip them for success in life. We hope that by sharing our experiences and tools with others, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our community members.

Detroits Service Learning Academy educates students about service learning and its impacts. Through service learning, students learn about the importance of giving back to their community by doing something meaningful and helpful.
Students work on carefully chosen projects that have a real-world impact. They learn how to analyze problems and find solutions, as well as how to work collaboratively with others. Through service learning, students develop not only practical skills, but also valuable empathy and communication skills.
Many students say that the best part of the academy is the sense of community that they build while working on their projects. They learn how to work together towards a common goal, and they develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their peers.

Detroit Service Learning Academy (DSLA) offers a variety of service. Learn opportunities to help students learn about Detroit and its residents. Students can choose from a number of different programs, including:
-Neighborhood Visits: DSLA provides students with. The opportunity to visit one or more Detroit neighborhoods to learn more about their neighborhoods and their residents.
-Food Not Bombs: DSLA teaches students how to cook and serve food to the homeless in Detroit.
-Urban Farming: DSLA teaches students about urban farming and how it use to improve the quality of life in Detroit.
-Community Cleanup: DSLA provides students with the opportunity to clean up a local park or neighborhood.
DSSLA partners with organizations throughout the Detroit area
DSLA partners with organizations throughout the Detroit area to provide service learning opportunities for its students. These include the Salvation Army, Detroit Red Cross, and many more. DSLA also frequently works with other schools in the city to provide exchanges and collaborative projects.

Detroit Service Learning Academy provides training to facilitators and volunteers. The academy offers a variety of courses, including Fundraising 101, Community Engagement Fundraising, and Event Planning & Management. Participants can also take courses on specific aspects of service-learning. Such as providing care for seniors or serving food in a homeless shelter. The academy also offers workshops for nonprofits and community groups interested in starting their own service-learning programs.
